Pick UPeSIM if you'd rather install an eSIM weeks before you fly and forget about it until you land. The Core Difference: Dozens of Sized Tiers vs a Plan That Waits for You
eSIM Card's United States page alone lists roughly 30 combinations: seven fixed-data tiers from 1GB to 100GB, each sold at several validity windows from 3 to 90 days, plus two unlimited tiers ("Unlimited" and "Unlimited Plus") running 1 to 30 days. UPeSIM, a French MVNO running since 2018, sells a simpler lineup of fixed prepaid blocks with no auto-renewal, covering 200+ countries and territories through local carrier partnerships.
The bigger practical difference is when the clock starts. UPeSIM's own policy is that a plan doesn't begin counting down until your phone actually connects to the destination network, not when you install the eSIM or scan the QR code, so it's built to be set up at home well before departure. The catch: UPeSIM's own FAQ says a profile that's installed but never activated goes stale and shows as expired after 60 days, so it's only good for trips within about two months. eSIM Card's own materials don't publish an equivalent activation-timing policy, so we can't say installing one ahead of time behaves the same way there; if you're buying eSIM Card, install it closer to your travel dates rather than assuming it'll wait.

eSIM Card's short-validity tiers make its smallest plan look cheaper, but it's also a shorter window of days than UPeSIM's 7-day minimum. UPeSIM doesn't sell an unlimited tier at all, unlike eSIM Card's two.

Two Things Worth Knowing Before You Decide
Neither has a real refund guarantee. eSIM Card's own policy describes eSIMs as fundamentally non-refundable once installed or used, with exceptions limited to narrow cases like a genuine coverage failure claimed within 30 days. UPeSIM doesn't publicly advertise a refund guarantee at all. If a no-questions refund matters to you more than either provider's pricing, that's a reason to look at AloSIM instead, which does advertise one.
Only one of them sells a phone number. eSIM Card offers a separate virtual number add-on starting around $2.40, plus a Data + Voice eSIM line, inside the same app as its data plans. UPeSIM has no equivalent: calls and texts on a UPeSIM plan route through your home carrier's own roaming rates, so WhatsApp or Telegram over the data connection is the practical workaround.
